Scenes

A scene = one idea on screen. You fill in its words and pictures.

ProSliced objectA ball in your colour fills the picture. Lines of light run round it, then, in time with the music, it is cut: its slices part with a bounce, lean towards you, and every cut face takes one of your pictures, from the bottom up. To finish, one slice comes round to face you and the camera dives into it: its picture fills the screen. You choose the shape (ball or pebble) and the cut: across, seen from above, or upright, side by side.ProPiece by pieceThick tiles, each one of your pictures, fall tumbling one after the other, in time with the music, and land end to end on the floor like a timeline. The row stands up into a folding screen, folds shut into a pile, the pile turns to face you and becomes a phone: the first tile is its screen. You choose the angle: from above or skimming the floor.ProCorridor of picturesThe camera rushes down a corridor whose walls, floor and ceiling are lined with your pictures; your line waits at the far end, the camera creeps towards it, then rushes through it; the corridor tilts a little on the way; at the far end, one picture faces you and comes up to fill the screen.ProOff the wallA corridor whose two walls are covered with your pictures; the camera moves slowly down it. One picture peels off its wall, flies without slowing and lands in front of you with a bounce. Its place stays empty in the wall. You choose the wall and the row it comes from.ProCrown of stylesYour scene, your line and your picture, on cards standing in a crown, each in another style of the library: night, poster, paper, blueprint… The crown draws back, flies round once, slows notch by notch with a click, and stops square in front of you on the style you choose, which comes out of the crown.ProStoryboard drawing itselfA storyboard pinned on a board, its panels made of your pictures. They are drawn in pencil column after column, in time with the music: the outlines, then the hatching. Then a wave of paint with a wet edge crosses the board and gives them back their colours. You choose the number of panels.ProYour words into the filmA film is waiting, its title and its picture still empty. Your line is typed in a field beside it, then the field dives into the film: your line becomes its title, the frame jolts on the impact. Your screenshot flies in and dives into the film's picture in turn. The film starts to play.ProThe other frames slide outYour film, in the shape of your frame. On the beat, its other shapes slide out from behind it one after the other, each one recomposed for its place, your line and your picture inside, and land with a bounce. They float for a moment, then go back behind it, and your film comes forward alone.ProBreathing sliced logoYour logo on the face of a thick block, cut upright into slices. The slices fall from above one after the other, on the beat, each at full speed onto its place, and bounce: your logo is whole. Then the block breathes: a wave runs along it, its cuts open on your colour and close behind it, and it turns a little to show its depth. Your line is written under it.ProThe full stop becomes the filmYour line is typed large; its full stop is a shape in your colour that comes last. It waits a beat, gathers itself, then your picture comes out of it: your words pour into the full stop, which opens on it and grows in one sweep into a large card that lands with a bounce.ProGalaxy of picturesYour pictures are the arms of a galaxy turning round one point, from the corners of the screen far into the distance, seen through a lens: what is not in focus stays soft. The galaxy starts fast and slows down; one picture escapes it, rushes at you and lands under your line with a bounce, and everything else goes soft behind it.ProCurve editorWhere every move is tuned: a curve editor arrives at an angle and turns to face you; its curves draw themselves, one per track (the tracks' names are yours); a line of light moves on, every point it crosses lights up and a dot in your colour rides the chosen curve. A cursor pulls a point's handle: the curve gets its bounce. Then the editor tilts away into depth.ProBehind the scenesYour pictures lie on a table, seen from above. A wave tips them one after the other: each lifts, lands on its back with a bounce, and a line of your list is typed on it, what the picture hides. Then a second wave puts them back face up, or they stay on your words if you choose.ProPictures into your logoYour pictures float round the screen; on the beat they fly one after the other onto a pile and land flat on it; the last card falls from above: your logo. The pile turns to face you, its layers edged in your colour, and your line is written under it.ProLiving mosaicA wall of your pictures that fills the screen and never stops: rows of tall tiles and wide tiles, each sliding its own way, at its own speed and depth, while the whole wall slowly draws back. In the middle your figure counts on reels or your word lands, with your small line. At the end every tile pours into the title, the farthest last. Three viewing angles.ProFormat carouselYour picture in the four shapes of a film (wide, portrait, vertical, square), on four faces that flow like record sleeves: the front one straight, its neighbours turned and set back. The row moves one format at a time, in time with the music: each gets its check as it comes to the front, then it whips back to the shape of your film, which comes forward and becomes the whole picture.ProScreen comes aliveThree phones land on the beat, then the camera dives into the middle one and your screen comes alive close up: a route is drawn from stop to stop, then the members of the group light up one by one, each with its line of your list and its colour. The camera draws back in one gesture towards the next scene.ProRising wordOne giant word, in a glow of your colours: warm at its heart and cool at its edges, each letter is uncovered from its baseline up, one after the other, while the word grows from a third of its size to its full size. Then it comes a little closer and leaves speeding up, still moving as the scene ends.ProBursting ringYour pictures burst out round your line. With your labels on small pills, first in two tones of your colours, then in their own, the ring settles, widens and turns slowly, each picture on its own orbit; it gives a kick when the line that follows takes the first one's place, then falls into its middle and becomes a sphere of light. Head on, or in orbit seen from above.ProThe letter becomes a globeA giant word is written from the top down; its letters are erased but one round letter, which grows into a sphere in your colours. Your labels turn round it in depth, the near ones larger, the far ones behind it, then the camera rushes into the sphere.ProPointing listA list in large type beside a glowing card. The word pointed at steps out after a small step back and turns from grey to ink, a bead of your colours before it; the whole card, which changes with the word, rises out of the picture and the next one comes up from below. Head on, or the card turned towards the list.ProWheel of tasksYour tasks on a wheel seen edge on: the line by the dot in ink, the others pale, those above and below curving away. The wheel moves one line at a time, faster and faster into the cut, and the dot swells into a bubble in your colours.ProThe line opensYour line, written group by group: each group arrives in your colours, then turns to ink; then it opens: the words move apart and two icons rise from behind the line into the gaps. It leaves by growing, faster and faster.ProWall in depthA wall of your pictures that looks flat until the camera moves: each one hangs at its own depth. The camera pulls back, then sweeps sideways twice; the near pictures slide faster than the far ones, and the far ones are slightly out of focus.

Transitions

What happens between two scenes.

ProFloodYour colour floods the frame from the bottom, then withdraws over the next scene.ProInkThe next scene spreads like ink on paper, edged in your colour.ProGlitchThe picture jumps in slices, like a signal dropping out, and locks back onto the next scene.ProInfinite zoomThe camera goes into the picture, which holds the next one, which holds the first, and so on: three levels in one sweep, and it comes out in the next scene.ProBrand windowYour logo (or your name in large letters) appears in the middle, cut out of the picture: the next scene shows through it. It grows until the camera goes through.ProMetamorphosisThe scene's subject gathers into a drop of your colour, which takes off and comes down where the next subject stands: it bursts, the subject comes out of it, and the new setting opens around it.ProPicture boardThe camera pulls back: the picture was only one tile on a board, among others in your colours. It slides to its neighbour, the next scene, and dives into it.ProPlanetThe picture bulges, steps back and becomes a ball: the next scene is on its other side. It makes a half turn, belted in your colour, then comes back to the camera and flattens out.ProPrismsThe picture is made of upright prisms, like a billboard of turning slats: a wave turns them one by one, with a small bounce, and each shows its share of the next scene on another face.ProFlapsBoth sides of the picture swing in towards you like doors, their backs in your colour; what is left turns over at once, and the next scene unfolds its flaps.ProMarbleA marble in your colour drops onto the scene's subject and squashes: the cut falls on the impact, the marble stays where it is while everything changes around it, then it hops to the next scene's subject and vanishes into it. It can be a tile or a ring.ProFixed pointA dot in your colour settles on one place of the screen and stays there: the scene rushes towards it, the next scene shows first inside the dot, as through a porthole, then takes the whole screen drawing back round the same point, the dot still in the same place and the same size. Then it melts away.ProDustThe picture crumbles into fine grains along an advancing front: the grains float up and fade, a few of them in your colour, and the next scene appears right behind. The front starts from the left or from the picture's subject.ProBlade of lightA slanting ray of light passes over the picture: ahead of it the scene, behind it the next one. Where it passes the picture brightens with your colour, softens for a moment and keeps a luminous trail.ProDots into mosaicDots light up in place on a fixed grid: where the next scene has something to show, first in two tones of your colours, then in its own; they swell into squares that touch, grow finer twice, and the next scene comes up sharp.ProThe card becomes a switchThe scene's subject becomes a switch: it shrinks and rounds into one while the rest melts into its ground; the switch turns on in your colour, and the next scene opens out of its knob.ProDive into a tileThe camera dives into the next tile. It draws back until the picture is one tile of a wall, slides to the next tile and dives into it: that is the next scene. The other tiles show both scenes in your colours.

Effects

A treatment put on one element, or on the whole picture.

ProNeonOnly the outlines stay, as a glowing tube in your colour.ProSketchThe element becomes a line drawing, with some hatching in the shadows.ProThermalThe false colours of a thermal camera, from cold purple to burning yellow.ProAuraFills the element with a soft field of your colours: warm at its heart, cool at its edges, drifting slowly. A word, a shape or an object all take the same iridescent glow, like one material from one end of the film to the other.ProFluted glassThe element is seen through reeded glass: even strips, each showing its neighbourhood squeezed, sliding slowly. A plain colour or a screenshot becomes a material.ProTile mosaicThe element laid in mosaic tiles. Small square tiles, each of one colour, rounded, with a slight relief, in joints of the ground's colour; a wave of light passes slowly over them. A screenshot, a logo or a ground becomes a hand-laid mosaic.ProHard shadowA thick outline and a crisp offset shadow in your colour, no blur: the element lifts, its shadow lengthens, then a round stamp slams onto its corner.ProOverprintA disc, a square and a triangle in the three primary colours, yours among them, slide onto the element one after the other and print over it like screen-printing inks: the words still read through.ProGilded frameA double gilded frame with stepped corners draws itself round the element from the top of its axis, down both sides at once; fans open in its corners; a sheen crosses the gold.ProInk and halftoneThe element is inked, its line heavy on the shadow side, and casts a shadow of halftone dots; dots also shade its corner; the light turns slowly and the shadow follows.ProDecoding wordsThe element scrambles into cells the size of a letter, which change at random then fall back into place from left to right, row after row, like a board updating.ProNeon outlineA glass tube is traced round the element, a pulse at its head; a white core and an aura in your colour that falls on the element.ProInto 8-bitThe picture loses its definition step by step, its colours brought to your brand's with a video-game dither, then turns sharp again.ProCharacter grainThe picture read as characters, from a very coarse grain to a fine one by steps, then back; its dark parts in ink, its coloured parts in your colour.ProOn cassetteThe picture plays from a cassette: its colour bleeds to one side, a tracking band crosses it now and then, its lines shake by a pixel, and sometimes the head clogs for a moment.ProDimensionedThe picture is dimensioned like a part on a drawing: extension lines rise from its corners, its width and height dimensions are drawn from their middle out, arrows close them, and its centre lines cross it, dash-dot.ProExtrusionThe picture rises off the page: its silhouette becomes a thick slab whose sides show below and to the right, lit from the top left, then it folds back.ProLifted layersThe picture becomes a piece of cut paper, lifted: a soft shadow that grows as it rises, its edge light at the top and dark at the bottom, the paper's fibre, and a slight sway at rest.ProFlap mosaicThe picture is set on a board of flaps, each with its hinge; every four seconds a wave crosses it and each flap turns over once before landing back on the picture.ProPendulumThe picture hangs from two threads and swings: every four seconds a nudge sets it going, then it swings less and less, its soft shadow with it.ProPoint cloudThe picture becomes thousands of grains of light taken from it: each near its place, a current carries them a little, a wave of light runs across, and one in twenty drifts off and comes back.ProLiquid edgesThe picture's edges turn liquid: its outline swells and settles in slow waves, and a drop gathers at its foot, hangs on a neck, lets go and falls, every four seconds.ProCard on a haloThe element floats on a glow of your colour ramp, your colour at its heart and a cool rim, breathing and pulsing gently, like the card on our home page.

Text animations

The way a text comes in.

ProLetters in flightThe letters first lie flat, stand up at once, leave their places for a lap of a ring round the middle of the line (those at the front pass close by, larger) and land back in place one after the other.ProLetters lighting upA light runs along the text and lights each letter as it passes: for a moment a little larger, soft and glowing in your colour, then the letter settles, sharp, in its own colour.ProOdometerThe figure in your text counts up from zero on reels, like an odometer: the units roll all the time, the tens and hundreds move on at each turn and open as the count reaches them. It slows down and lands right on your value, never past it; the « + » or « % » after it arrives with it.ProText wheelThe lines of your text sit on a wheel seen edge on: the middle one is large and sharp, with a dot in your colour, the others shrink and fade as they turn away. The wheel moves one notch at a time, faster and faster, and stops on each line that holds a key word (between stars), otherwise on the last one. One line per idea.ProStamped lettersEach letter is stamped: it comes in large and askew, hits, bounces on a stiff spring and stays a hair out of line, on purpose; a thick bar underlines the line at once.ProCompass lettersThe letters are constructed: construction lines and a compass circle round each one, then each letter is drawn by a turn of the compass; the guides fade away.ProSymmetric lettersThe letters rise out of their line from the middle out to both ends; a rule with diamonds draws itself under them from the centre.ProSmack letteringThe letters come in one by one, askew, with a bounce and a black relief; a spiky balloon in your colour bursts out behind a short line.ProBounce and widthThe letters drop one after the other and squash as they land, then a wave of width runs through them, narrow then wide, before they take their own width again.ProIgnitionThe letters, unlit at first, light up one after the other with a halo of their colour; one hesitates, goes out and comes back, before it holds.ProWavy titleThe letters pop in one by one on twos, with a bounce of three images, then a video-game title's wave runs through them, pixel by pixel, before they settle.ProPrint headA print head runs along the text: under it the characters scramble, behind it they settle into letters; the head is a block of your colour.ProBurn-inThe letters burn in one after the other at a titler's pace; each arrives torn sideways, its red and cyan split apart, then settles.ProPen outlineA pen draws the outline of each letter, one after the other, then the letter fills in.ProFall to the floorEach letter falls to the floor and bounces twice, less each time; its shadow on the floor tightens and darkens as it lands.ProPop-up lettersEach letter is a cut-out on a hinge: lying flat and darker, it folds up with a slight overshoot and stands.ProFlap lettersEach letter is a flap of a departures board: it turns over several times, other characters flicking past on its two halves, and stops on its own, from left to right.ProTumbleEach letter is a block dropped from above with a spin: it falls, lands on a corner, tips over and rocks before settling upright in its place.ProGrain revealEach letter gathers out of grains of light, a few at first then more and more, drifting the rest of its way, from left to right.ProPourEach letter is poured: a drop falls into its place, spreads, and the letter grows out of it, liquid, from left to right; once poured, it is sharp.ProHolo rimsEach letter rises into place with a slight overshoot, coloured by your ramp on the way (cool, then your colour) before taking its own again.

Styles

Colours, typefaces and finish: the whole film changes at once.

ProIndia inkClear water on warm white paper: veils of black ink sink slowly through it, your colour as a second ink, a fine serif drawn in Japan.ProInk cloudDark water lit from above: your colour rises through it in plumes with a milky white, letters in an old-style italic.ProNeo-brutalismA cream page with dots, bold flat colours ringed in a thick black line with a hard offset shadow, huge capitals. Everything slams and snaps into place on a stiff spring.ProBauhausA poster set on its grid: grained paper, a disc, a bar and a triangle in primary colours that recompose themselves, plain geometric letters. Your colour takes the place of a primary.ProArt decoA jewellery hall in the deepest tone of your colour, framed in gold: gilded capitals a sheen crosses, fans and rising suns, everything symmetrical. Your colour as enamel.ProComic bookA printed page: cream paper, dot screens, an inked line heavy on the shadow side, comic lettering in capitals; your colour is the second ink, printed a hair off register.ProKinetic typeType is the picture: a very heavy grotesk on paper, giant outlined words drifting behind, letters that fall, squash and change width.ProNeon glowA brick wall at night, glass tubes with a white-hot core and a saturated halo whose light spills on the wall, a wet street reflecting it; your colour is one of the gases.ProPixel artThe film becomes a video-game level in real pixels: a dithered sky, scrolling hills, pixel fonts, game windows, a game's palette where your colour has three shades.ProASCII artEverything is characters: the picture read again as signs on a grid, printed in ink on paper, your colour as a second ink; frames drawn in text lines, a ruler and a status line.ProRetro VHSA 90s home video played back from a cassette: a sunny room filmed by hand, the titler's big letters, the camcorder's display, and the tape that wobbles, bleeds and tears at the bottom of the screen.ProArchitect's drawingA real print dyed in your colour, mottled, folded in four, drawn before your eyes: letters plotted in outline, cards and objects in dimensioned white lines, a title block, a sliding ruler.ProIsometricA model seen from above at true angles, with no perspective: a gridded floor that glides, blocks in your colour, cards as thick slabs, 3-D objects set at the same angle, crisp lettering.ProPaper cutoutLayers of thick paper laid one over another, each with its soft shadow: cut or torn edges, the paper's fibre, letters cut out, cards as sheets, objects of folded paper, and everything sways a little.ProSplit flapA departures board: each letter on its black hinged flap, your key words on flaps of your colour, and everything turns over with a clack, letter after letter; the cards are panels of the board.ProPhysicsA laboratory: letters and cards have weight, they fall, bounce, stack and come to rest straight to be read; a floor, graph paper, a marble in your colour rolling by.ProParticlesEverything is grains: words, cards and pictures are made of thousands of points of light that never quite stand still, over a nebula with its filaments, light shafts and soft bokeh.ProLiquid morphA flat liquid in your colour: drops that join and part at the edges of the frame, round lettering, and pieces where shapes flow into one another before coming back sharp.ProHaloThe language of our home page: a white ground, a soft field read through a ramp of colours (yours at its heart), seen through fluted glass, ink letters with a coloured rim and cards floating on a glow.
